Bicycle Built for Two-Cassie Bertrand

Once I got used to the shortcuts for Noteflight, it became fairly easy to arrange this piece within the program.  I liked some of the keystroke shortcuts that I haven't seen in other programs.  I think noteflight would be very useful when assigning class composition projects.  At times, I have students work in groups to create a piece to teach the class so this would enable them to work on the piece from their own homes.  With the various settings, you can control who sees your piece as well as who can work on it.  I think this could be a valuable education tool, especially being a free program.  It would also be useful for students to turn in rough copies of their compositions.  I could make corrections or suggestions, they could view the changes and work towards a final version.  I do not feel this is the most user friendly program I have ever used but I do think it would be a great student level software.

Speed note game

Speed Note Game

This is a great website through Vic Firth that I use to have my students test their knowledge of their notes.  It increases in difficulty and gives you a score at the end of each round to show their accuracy.

A great trio

Trio: violin, cello and piano
Here is a link to a video from a TED conference.  These 3 sisters play "Skylife," by David Balakrishnan, then play a gorgeous version of "Oblivion," by Astor Piazzolla.  The contrasting pieces are beautiful and show amazing musicianship.  This video caught my attention because I played Skylife in high school with a string quartet and I remembered how fun it was to play.

Music notation as a practice assistant

Using Technology as a Practice Tool

Here is a great little story of an example of how a teacher used technology to create practice tapes for a students working on a duet who didn't have much time to practice together.  This would be a great way to encourage our students to become familiar with music notation programs.

This video shows a couple of different programs that are designed for music notation as well as DJ style performance.  The program, "The Music Key" is user friendly for all ages and has programs from teachers and students.

Hey everyone

Hey everyone, hope everyone is getting started alright. I know I've never done any blogging before or anything of the sort so it's going to take a little while to get comfortable.  Hopefully we can use this as a valuable tool to share ideas.  I look forward to chatting with all of you.
